There was great excitement before the Hallowe’en break when Castletownroche National School won the Sciath na Scol football C final at Mallow GAA Complex. The team have been working really hard training and it goes to show that hard work really does pay off in time!

Credit must be given to trainers, Derek Noonan and Eddie Sheehan, who give so much time to the children with GAA activities at school. Prior to reaching the final, Castletownroche played a blitz, which saw them playing 4 teams. Here they won 3 out of 4 games, which qualified them to play in the final v Shanballymore at Mallow GAA Complex on Thursday, 24th October. This was truly a fantastic ‘edge of your seat’ final, where both teams played with great heart and determination. Final score 12-6 to 10-5.

Castletownroche brought the cup back to the school where it was filled with treats, sponsored by Castletownroche Juvenile GAA Club, which were much appreciated.

Last year the school were awarded the GAA flag from Sciath na Scol for their participation in GAA games/activities. This football win will hopefully help to keep that flag flying for another while. Well done Castletownroche National School.
