One year on from their first appearance at the Indiependence music festival, local band Subject To Change have promised ‘to be louder’ and said festival goers will get to hear more of the band’s own material at this year’s concert.

The four-piece band, which is made up of Kevin O’Brien on vocals and guitar, Mark O’Brien on bass, Eric O’Sullivan (lead guitar) and Colin Devaney (drums), will be playing a 30-minute slot at this year’s event and hope scouts will get the opportunity to catch the band live, when they feel they will be at their best.

Speaking to The Avondhu, lead vocalist and guitar player Kevin O’Brien claims the band ‘found their sound’ playing at a gig in J’s Bar in Mitchelstown on St Patrick’s weekend earlier this year.

“Everything just seemed to click. We had been experimenting with some sounds but it all came together that night in J’s Bar,” said the CBS Mitchelstown 6th year student.

‘Subject to Change’ were only formed in April 2016 and already they have found their space in the pages of history, as they were the youngest and most newly formed band to gain a coveted performance slot at the Indiependence Music & Arts Festival over the August bank holiday last year.

Looking to the future, bass guitarist Mark said that he ‘doesn’t want a nine to five job’ and hopes the band can go on to big things down the road.

The band, who were influenced by Bruce Springsteen, Oasis, U2 and The Beatles, describe themselves as an upbeat, Indie rock ‘n’ roll band.

Before they play at the Indiependence Festival, they will be performing at the Marquee in Araglen on this Friday, July 28 from 12am – 2am.
