First year students from St Fanahan's College in Mitchelstown had a unique opportunity this term, as they got to conduct their PE classes in the exciting and adventurous arena of Blackwater Outdoor Activities for five weeks.

This was run in partnership with the School Completion Programme and every Tuesday for five weeks, come rain or shine, the students kitted themselves out to prepare for an adrenaline filled adventure.

They sampled things like kayaking, tubing, giant swings, zip-lining, zorbing, giant climbing towers, team building activities and much more.

A teacher in the school told The Avondhu that the PE classes helped the students to form strong friendships with each other and also strengthen their teamwork and bonding.

As the students find themselves in much bigger classes in a larger school, it is a great advantage to have fun and different things like this to help the students to get to know their classmates.

Thanks to the PE department, they also slipped on their hiking boots to take on the slopes of Corrin Hill, an activity conquered by the students who made it to the top, a little damp but proud and victorious.
