Local athletes to the fore at national Track and Field Championships

The strong calibre of athletes at local secondary schools was clearly demonstrated over the bank holiday weekend, as three students from St Colman’s College, Fermoy secured medals at the 123.ie Irish Schools Track and Field Championships in Tullamore, Co Offaly, while Presentation Secondary in Mitchelstown also had a double medallist.

Colman's students Senan O’Reilly, Aidan Maher and Sean O’Riordan all won gold medals in their respective events, with a personal best achieved at the event by Senan O’Reilly.

In the Intermediate Boys 800m, Senan secured first-place with a time of 1.55.15, in the process setting a new personal best and European Youth Olympics Festival (EYOF) standard time. He defeated Caolan McFadden of Loreto Milford (1.56.17) and Daire O'Donnell, Cashel Community School (1.56.29).
