It's expected that there will be some damage caused as a result of Storm Kathleen.

Cork County Council's Severe Weather Assessment Team have convened following the issuing of a Met Eireann Status Orange Wind Warning for Cork. The warning is in effect from 7.00am to 5.00pm on this Saturday, April 6th.

Storm Kathleen is expected to bring gale force southerly winds, with some severe and damaging gusts.

Possible impacts associated with Storm Kathleen include: Some fallen trees, difficult travel conditions, debris, loose objects displaced; and some coastal flooding.

Members of the public are advised to stay high, stay dry and stay away from the coast, rivers and lakes. With strong gusts and high waves predicted, people are urged to refrain from visiting coastal areas.

Cork County Council wishes to advise road users to be aware of the danger posed by high winds and to be aware of any surface debris. Motorists are also asked to be especially conscious of cyclists and pedestrians.

Issues such as fallen trees, flooding and road damage should be reported to the relevant local area office during working hours on (021) 4276891 or contact the Council’s Emergency Out of Hours number (021) 4800048 over the weekend.

POWER OUTAGES

The strong winds may give rise to localised power outages. In the event of a disruption to power supply, please contact ESB Networks at 1800 372 999. Fallen or grounded wires should be avoided and the public are advised to call ESB in assisting with the identification of fallen wires.

In the event of a disruption to water supply, please contact Uisce Eireann at 1800 278 278.

In the event of an emergency call 999 or 112 and request the Fire Service, Ambulance Service, Garda or Irish Coastguard as appropriate. DO NOT assume others will do this.

Also, Dursey Cable Car will be closed on Saturday, April 6th and will return to operation only when wind speeds permit and following inspection if necessary. Updates will be available on @CorkCoCo social media.
