A full house and a standing ovation does not do justice to the show stopping performance put on by the Mitchelstown Musical Society on the opening night of the Wizard of Oz.
From the live music, played under the flawless direction of Noreen Helen and Sarah Chamberlain Dewhurst to the immaculate costumes, theatrical entrances and wonderful acting, the performance was truly amazing.
The story was very much like the traditional adaptation, with many hilarious moments and a few dark and scary scenes, courtesy of the Wicked Witch to leave the audience members shaking in their boots.
The production, under the direction of Catherine Mahon Buckley, really has something for everyone in the family and with the familiar faces from the community taken out of their day clothes and whipped into the costumes of the fantastical land of Oz, the show will be entertaining and fun for everyone.
Almost every night has sold out, as the show opened on Tuesday last and will run until Saturday in the CBS auditorium in Mitchelstown.
Every year, the Mitchelstown Musical Society show has gotten great support and seeing the talent on show, it is no surprise that it is so well supported, year in year out.
Every detail is down to a fine art, from the live dog Toto, courtesy of the O'Brien family, to the chorus of children and the various characters adding life and vitality to their parts with every evil cackle, exaggerated facial expression and beautiful song.
If you haven't bought your ticket already, go out and nab it fast, as this is one show that is not to be missed.Tickets are €15 and are on sale from Hyland's Book Shop, The Favourite and Style Lounge in Fermoy.
