Over the past two weeks we have been running a gardening course for children of the Stag Park Estate with Ailish Drake who was the facilitator in the Stag Park Community House. The children learned a great deal about vegetables, plants and shrubs. They designed and created their own mini gardens which over the coming weeks will flourish into miniature gardens of rocket and watercress. The children’s creativity was expressed through different activities and learning quizzes. We would like to thank all involved in making this part of our summer camp a success!

On August 12th we have organised a Community through Sound camp, which will be on for the five days that week. This camp will cater for ages 7 to 9 years from 10am-12.30pm as well as ages 10 to 14 years 2pm to 4.30pm. You can be a DJ, a sound effects whizz and get to interview your friends using microphones and recording equipment. You’ll even get to edit the sounds you recorded using a computer programme. We’ll show you how to make your own sound effects using lots of items you’ll find around your house. You’ll also get to write and perform your very own radio play with your friends using sound effects, microphones and a mixing disc just like a real DJ. This camp will cost €25 per child.

If you would like to book a place please ring Serena McCarthy, estate officer on 087 2071977/ email mitchelstownestates@gmail.com. We are also running a competition on Facebook which is offering one free place for the winner’s child which is valued at €25. For more information just go to our Facebook page and like and share our page! Competition closing date is Thursday evening, 25th July.
