The staff of St Theresa’s Hospital in Clogheen were, earlier in November, presented with the Cathaoirleach’s award for the district, one of a number of worthy groups vying for the honour. They were nominated by local councillor Marie Murphy who said it was a ‘no-brainer’ to propose the staff of St Theresa’s, while also not forgetting the past staff of the facility.
Thanking the current cathaoirleach Cllr Declan Burgess for holding the awards in Brú Ború in Cashel, she said the hospital held a special place in her heart for the care they provided to her late mother in the last weeks of her life.
Following HIQA registration in 2016, the hospital was given five years to to bring things up to regulatory standards and, after Cllr Murphy says after she ‘pestered’ then-Minister for Health Simon Harris to visit the Clogheen facility, capital funding came through and ‘there have been continuous improvements since 2018’. In December 2019, the new build was opened for use and there is now also a full-time physiotherapist in St Theresa’s Hospital.
