It was a case of ‘all hands on board’ and that included pupils, teachers and parents at the busy cake sale organised in St Joseph’s national school in Fermoy on Friday last.
Parents, staff and children made the wide variety of cakes and other goodies on sale wth the senior classes organising the display and the selling of cakes with assistance from principal Geraldine Burke and teacher John Walsh. An enjoyable day was had by everyone with tea and chat, fun games and a raffle with a wide range of prizes sponsored by local businesses.
The school also took advantage of the day to launch its school newsletter, detailing the various different events that had happened during the year.
A new parents association has been formed which aims to support the school by raising money for extra resources. Noel McCarthy is Chairperson, Sean Keohane is Treasurer, J.J.O’Connor is PRO, Kate Quirke is Secretary and Kevin Roche and Mary Chambers make up the committee. Mary was responsible for an idea which has proved very popular; a calendar featuring the pupils of the school which was printed up in time for Christmas. Each class has its own photograph. The money raised will go towards resources for the autism unit for the school. A carol service was held on Tuesday night as the children wind down towards their Christmas holidays.
