On Thursday 21st March 5th and 6th year history students travelled to Dublin to visit Collins Barracks National History Museum, Arbour Hill and Kilmainham Gaol.

Students were able to see first hand archival material and objects from their course studies relating to the Home Rule movement, Easter Rising, War of Independence and Civil War.

These are key components of the Leaving Cert history curriculum.

As well as seeing the material and hearing about the history of the events in Collins Barracks, the students were able to visit the exact locations of where the leaders of the Rising were held and executed in Kilmainham Gaol and their burial locations in Arbour Hill.
