An exciting new sound has emerged on the social dancing scene in the Munster region. The launch of Southern Stars, featuring Dave Mulcahy and Tony Corbett will make your feet feel lighter on the floor from lively quicksteps to the traditional half set should that be your fancy, or an old time waltz of foxtrot and yes – ‘the Slosh’ is also part of their set list.

Dave and Tony have been together for the past seven years catering mainly for weddings and various other functions. Both of the lads have been steeped in music since their youth.

Dave grew up to the sound of the Maurice Mulcahy Orchestra, his father Michael having been the band’s baritone saxophonist. It was only natural that he would be bitten by the music bug and has been playing and singing ever since. Dave himself also played guitar with the band for most of the 1980s and had great success in a solo capacity as Wallstreet.

Tony brings loads of experience with him. An accomplished accordion and keyboard player, he has been part of the dancing scene with bands such as Jimmy Buckley, Shaun Cuddy, Liam O’Connor and Tony Stephens over the years and has also been on stage many times with Foster & Allen.

The band will have its official launch at the Deanrock Ballroom, Togher, Cork on Tuesday, July 2nd at 9pm. Guest artists appearing will be Peter Burke, Declan Aungier along with Brazil & Donnelly. Admission €7, with a free raffle on the door ticket.

So, when you see Southern Stars advertised for a venue near you, you can be assured that there’s a great night in store!
