Plans for a revamp of Waterloo Lane in Fermoy were recently reported in The Avondhu, however news of the project was not received well by some locals.
At last month’s municipal district meeting in Cork, the Project ACT plan for the development was unveiled which would see seating provided for people around the base of a tree at the site, with specialist road painting showing that the area will have priority for pedestrians.
Pruning of overgrown trees in the area was also noted as a priority, to allow natural light to help with growth of flowers and other shrubs.
However, former town councillor John Murphy said that while trees and nature on Waterloo Lane needs to be cleaned up – and this would be welcomed – the provision of seating is not part of the answer, as it will only encourage antisocial behaviour.
