One of Ireland’s serious new talents Stefanie Preissner brings ‘Solpadeine Is My Boyfriend’ (Irish Examiner – 5 Stars ***** – a one woman tour de force”) to The Village Arts Centre, Kilworth on Thursday, May 30.

Described also as ‘a dark, delightful and intelligent comedy’,’Solpadeine Is My Boyfriend’ is about a new Irish generation. They were promised everything; a life of financial stability and job security but they now find themselves queuing either at the airport to emigrate or the social welfare office to sign on. It’s a generation that feel entitled not to experience depression, economic or personal, and whose availability to over-the-counter medication allows them to numb both.

Stefanie’s high-octane performance is broken up by moments of near stand-up comedy. The piece resonates with all Irish audiences regardless of where they are from due to the mass exodus of young people leaving for Australia, Canada and America.

Stefanie Preissner was born in Germany and raised in Cork and has been working as an actor and writer in Ireland for the past 8 years. Stefanie has written two hugely successful stage plays, ‘Our Father’ and ‘Solpadeine Is My Boyfriend’, both of which enjoyed sell-out runs in Dublin and national tours, the latter being performed in Bucharest in 2013 and translated into Romanian.

Tickets are just €10 and are now on sale from The Avondhu office, Fermoy (025-32227); Cotter’s Bar, Kilworth (025-27109); Hyland’s Bookshop, Mitchelstown (025-24528) or on 087-6492514.
