Colaiste an Chraoibhin students served up some wonderful entertainment at last Friday night's concert in the first class venue that is Fermoy Community Youth Centre Theatre.

Billed as 'Blas Beo' (Live Taste), the object of the exercise was to give performers a taste of what it's like to perform before a live audience. The main driving force behind the venture, which also served as a fundraiser for the school's parents' association, was Ernestine Healy. Ms Healy, who teaches music at the school, is very passionate about her job and has little difficulty in instilling this passion in students.

Patrons were treated to an ecletic mix of traditional, rock, pop and classical sounds with some interpretive dance thrown in for good measure. Special guests were Fermoy's own, Kevin Cronin, who is a regular on the live band circuit and Melissa Power from Rathcormac, who has also fashioned a successful singing career for herself. The talented duo were responsible for judging the 'Battle of the Bands' and both identified 'Us And The Fridays' as the outstanding act on the night. Another artist to be honoured was Aaron English from Kilworth.

TALENT POT

MC for the occasion was Kevin McCormack and true to form, Kevin, who is no stranger to screen and stage, turned in a very polished performance interspersed with a variety of jokes and one-liners. Chairperson of the parents' association, Larry Flynn from Glanworth, acknowledged the time and effort put in by students in the run up to last Friday night. He thanked the large crowd for their attendance and paid tribute to the dedication of music teacher, Ernestine Healy.

The concert provided a massive confidence boost for participating students and once again illustrates the ability of Colaiste an Chraoibhin, Fermoy to produce exceptionally talented musicians, singers and dancers.
