The Restaurant with Marco Pierre White and Rachel Allen is back on Virgin Media One tomorrow night, Thursday, October 3 at 9pm as social media star James Kavanagh takes on our Head Chef challenge.
The Restaurant is hosted in Marco Pierre White Courtyard Bar & Grill Donnybrook.
In episode four, James created a menu anchored around a seaweed theme inspired by a trip to Japan with his partner William.
The first starter was a choice of Blow-Torched Mackerel with Dillisk Mustard followed by Chilled Cucumber and Tarragon Soup.
Starter Chef, Gary O’Hanlon said the green soup was ‘the worst thing I have ever tasted in my life’ and it didn’t get much better when the chilled starter hit the tables!
On Mains, James served Salt Cured Sirloin with Salsa Verde which proved to be a roaring success.
The second option was Molly Malone Cockles and Smoked Seaweed Risotto which sparked Marco Pierre White to sing the chorus of the famous Dublin song ‘a live a live oh’.
James didn’t shy away from seaweed in his dessert selection, baking a Ginger & Molasses Cake with Smoked Dillisk with Pastry Chef Louise Lennox.
But James’ second dessert choice, Carrageen Moss Pudding with Kombu Seaweed split the dining room.
Marco Pierre White loved the dish but many diners referred to the panna cotta like texture as ‘baby food’.
Will James’s seaweed infused menu float the critic’s boat? Find out tomorrow night at 9pm on Virgin Media One.
The Restaurant is proudly sponsored by O’Donnell’s Crisps.
