The recent gala event at Kilbehenny Community Centre was an exhibition to showcase the great work Small Town Studio's and their 5 volunteer architectural students done over the summer months. Last week's Avondhu article may have given the impression that it was the official opening of the hall which of course it wasn't. Those involved with the Small Town Studio project did a wonderful job and it was to this end event was held.

The Kilbehenny Community Centre is fast becoming known as the 'Gateway to the Galtees' and the showers in the centre are available for all to use, and especially to groups partaking in outdoor activities such as walking in the area. The centre is open 5 days a week (not 8am till 11pm seven days a week as stated).

A lovely evening was had by the large crowd who attended the event, many of the students' families came from all over the country. The committee welcomed everybody and thanked Eleanor Moloney, Gerard Walsh and their 5 students for the excellent work done on the acoustics, stage and signage for the new centre.

Eleanor and Gerard of Small Town Studio thanked each of the students and presented each with a gift in appreciation for their workk. They also thanked the Community of Kilbehenny for making them so welcome over the 8 weeks they were there.

The committee also thanked Amanda Slattery (Tourism and Heritage Officer with Ballyhoura Development) who explained how the funding came from the Limerick City of Culture. Finally the committee thanked the Community Employment Scheme for organising the refreshments etc.

People mingled around for a couple of hours viewing the work done by Small Town Studios and people also got a chance to see around the new centre and the wonderful facilities it has to offer.
