30 years after they won the national TidyTowns competition, Galbally are once more in the headlines with a Silver medal having been attained in this year’s competition, and the proud position of second in the county with 376 points, just five points off of first-placed community, Adare. While with 371 points, the community of Ardpatrick is also representing the south-east area of Limerick well this year, as they received a Bronze medal for their endeavours.

Judges were so impressed with Galbally this year, they remarked that a national title is ‘an achievable goal’ with the community’s ‘radical’ plans for the coming years.
Chair of Galbally TidyTowns, Tim Ryan, said they were delighted with the result and their Silver medal, the first award for the community in recent years. They gained 13 points on last year’s tally and judges commended the fact that consultants had been engaged to assess options for the Square to improve and enhance the area for walkers. The community were also praised for the progress on derelict sites in the area, the 13th-century church ruins in the graveyard, and the general painting and refurbishment undertaken in Galbally.
