Competition was hot last weekend up north, as the Special Olympics Ireland Winter Games ran over 3 days in County Armagh, with over 200 athletes competing across both the South Lake Leisure Centre and Craigavon Golf & Ski Centre.
Local representation saw Ballyhooly’s Pat Collins participate with Team Munster, who had 66 athletes in total competing, including 7 floorball teams and 10 skiers. And it was joy unconfined for the user of the Day Centre in Cope Foundation Fermoy, securing a silver medal with the men’s division 4 floorball team, following a hard-fought play-off match.
Spirited competition lived up to the famous Special Olympics athlete oath, “Let me win, and if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt”.
