Gardaí in Watergrasshill are investigating an incident involving a firearm that took place near the village this week.
Reports from Gardaí state that a firearm was discharged in a field in the vicinity of three youths on Monday evening, April 5, at approximately 6pm at Mitchelsfort, Watergrasshill.
A spokesperson for An Garda Síochana said that Gardaí are ‘investigating all the circumstances of the discharge of a firearm that occurred at a field at Mitchelsfort’.
It is understood thta a man, in his late 60s, entered the field and discharged the firearm into the air while three youths, in their mid-teens, were present in the field at the time of the incident.
“All three youths were uninjured during the incident,” the spokesperson said.
Gardaí arrested a man in his late 60s on Tuesday morning (April 6th) in relation to the investigation.
The man is currently detained at Fermoy Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
Speaking with The Avondhu this week, one local said that they were ‘shocked and amazed’ to hear of the incident, which took place in a rural area on the Cork City side, just outside the village.
