Minister of State, Sean Sherlock, welcomed the recent confirmation of a €12.5 billion support package for the agri sector, which he said will directly benefit farmers and communities in the Cork area.
The funds come from the Common Agricultural Policy and Exchequer funding up until 2020.
"It's a significant package of support right across the agriculture sector," he pointed out. "We are changing the landscape of agriculture and agri-food in this country and this county with the new advances in a host of different sub-sectors," he said.
"I've met with representatives of farming organisations from around Cork and am well aware of the struggles, challenges and opportunities they face," he went on.
The measures include €8.5bn in EU funding is to be paid to farmers in direct payments in the period up to 2020.
