Galway based ceili/trad band Shaskeen will be celebrating 50 years on the road in 2020, just two years away.
An entire generation has matured on the music of the band that was put together to play on Friday nights at the Oxford Tavern in Kentish Town back in 1970.
Since then, the music of Shaskeen lives on, albeit with a slightly different line up.
In what has been a 'rushed booking', the band members are very much looking forward to coming back to The Village Aerts Centre, Kilworth on Saturday night next (24th), having fond memories of their last visit.
The name Shaskeen comes from the Shaskeen Reel so as one can imagine the band has been heavily influenced by ceili music and in the past four decades has been true to the ethos that brought Tom Cussen, Benny O Connor, Sean McDonagh, Johnny and Maureen Minogue together all those years ago.
Today the band is still steered by Tom Cussen who is joined by Eamon Cotter, Patsy McDonagh, Johnny Donnellan, Pat Costello, Pat Broderick, Tony Howley and Geraldine Cotter.
See them on Saturday night, March 24 in The Village Arts Centre, Kilworth.
Tickets (€15) from usual outlets or call 025-32227 or 087-6492514.
