Shanballymore parents push for school bus

Parents in Shanballymore are calling on the relevant authorities to provide a school bus from the village, so that 22 local secondary school students can attend school in Mitchelstown via public transport come September.

The crux of the issue lies in the fact that children are eligible for transport when they are attending their nearest post-primary school or education centre.

This criteria excludes 22 students in Shanballymore who wish to attend secondary school in Mitchelstown, as technically the secondary school in Doneraile is nearer.

From Shanballymore primary school to New Market Square in Mitchelstown is 17.7 kilometres, a drive of about 18 minutes. The distance to the school in Doneraile is eight kilometres, and a ten minute drive. However, …
