Uisce Éireann were on-site at New Square in Mitchelstown on Friday after sewage was allegedly ‘pouring down the square’.

Working at a manhole near the bus stop in the square, the issue is understood to have been largely resolved by 2pm that day and the affected areas cleaned.

According to local councillor, Deirdre O’Brien, relevant authorities were alerted to the matter at approximately 10.30am, however, it is understood to have been ongoing for some hours prior.

She also reported that a local business on Lower Cork Streeet had had to shut its doors two weeks previously, due to a maladour in the area and up by New Square.
