Following news that Cork County Council will be asking relatives of people buried in Kilcrumper New Cemetery and other cemeteries around the county to remove kerbing, flowers, wreaths and other personal items from gravesides, Fermoy based Cllr Noel McCarthy has called for ‘a serious discussion’ to take place before any action is taken.

The Council announced last month that they intend to act on the 2016 Cork County Council Cemetery Bye-Laws, which states that a lawn cemetery, such as Kilcrumper New Cemetery, is defined as a cemetery or part of a cemetery wherein kerbs or other such items shall not be permitted to be placed and where all or designated parts of the cemetery comprising burial plots, shall be maintained as grassed areas.
