As counting of votes for the 49 seats to be filled for the Upper House of the Oireachtas continues, there was disappointment for candidates from The Avondhu area, Kevin O’Keeffe, Dermot Cantillon and Tom Neville when the 16 seats up for grabs in their panels were filled this Tuesday and Wednesday.

Former Cork East TD, Fianna Fáil’s Kevin O’Keeffe, who secured 33 votes (33,000) in count 1, adding 4 in subsequent votes, 2 on Mr Cantillon’s elimination, was eliminated on count 10 on 37 (37,000) votes on the Agricultural Panel.

Kevin O’Keeffe said that he was disappointed not to have made it. 

The Mitchelstown man, who lost his seat in the recent general election, was hoping to represent his area in the Seanad.
