School transport system ‘an embarrassment’ says Cllr O’Leary

Local Fianna Fail county councillor William O’Leary has labelled the government's handling of the school transport system as 'an embarrassment'.

Despite parents' pleas for a resolution to the issue sooner, schools have now reopened while many children remain without school transport from their local areas.

As previously reported in The Avondhu, areas affected by the lack of school transport include Glenville, Kildinan, Ballynoe/Conna, Rathcormac and Glanworth.

“As far back as April I raised concerns in Cork County Council in relation to what I saw as the serious issues that were coming down the line in August and September. Unfortunately, I was right in my prediction.

“The Department saw fit not to reply to the concerns I raised with Cork County Council despite being formally written to, which is shocking to say the least,” Cllr O’Leary said.
