It was clear that Christmas had well and truly arrived in Mitchelstown on Thursday last, as people of all ages donned their Santa suits to take part in the annual Santa Run with the Galtee Runners, which was in aid of Drive to Survive this year. All proceeds from this year run will go to Marymount Hospice.
After a horrible afternoon of rain, the skies cleared just in time for the run and in a blazing red and white cloud, over 150 Santa's took to the streets for the unique and fun festive event. MC on the night, Maurice Walsh kept everyone's spirits high through the 1 mile route and there were many elated faces returning to The Clongibbon House refreshments afterwards.
The Galtee Runners would like to thank the management and staff of Clongibbon House for the mulled wine and minerals and all of the Santas were rewarded for their efforts with a medal at the finish line. They also wish to thank the Drive to Survive team for all of their help on the night.
To mark the end of the year, the Galtee Runners will have their Christmas party in The Hunter's Rest on Saturday, December 21 and anyone interested in coming along is asked to contact Majella on 087-2188203.
Because of Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, running nights will change from Tuesday to Monday for the next two weeks and go back to normal on Tuesday, January 7. The club will also be starting a new 'Couch to 5k' programme in the new year.
Chairman of the club, Mick Casey also wished everyone a merry Christmas and he thanked all in The Avondhu for their continued support.
