The Santa suits will be rummaged out of attics and wardrobes once again, as Mitchelstown is set to become a sea of red and white on Thursday, December 12 for the Galtee Runners annual Santa Run, which will be done in association with Drive to Survive this year.
The Santa’s Drive to Survive is expected to garner huge support from running enthusiasts, casual joggers and festive walkers from Mitchelstown and surrounding areas.
Santa suits can be purchased on the night for €10, which includes entry or beforehand from the Arch Hair Salon or Dan Gallahue’s garage in Anglesboro, or participants can wear their own suits and give a donation of €5.
Kids can enter for free, but are asked to dress up in red so that everyone looks bright and festive.
All proceeds from this year’s run will go to Marymount Hospice through Drive to Survive, a charity which was set up by Dan Gallahue in memory of his father John.
In August of this year, the volunteers with Drive to Survive drove two Model T trucks around 26 counties to raise money for local hospices as they travelled.
Unfortunately, many people have had first hand experience of the wonderful services that hospices around Ireland provide and this will be a cause, close to the hearts of many.
The Galtee Runners are hoping that this year’s event will see a bigger turnout than ever before and they are calling on as many people as possible to come out and support this unique and fun event.
The route starts in New Square going down the main street, up Baldwin Street, up the back of the town, down Church Street and back to the New Square. Thanks to Pat Tangney and all at Clongibbon House as refreshments and mulled wine will be available to all the participants afterwards. There will also be a raffle and some spot prizes on the night.
Happy Christmas to everyone from the Galtee Runners and Drive to Survive and they wish to thank everyone for their continued support.
All support would be greatly appreciated and all Santa’s will meet in New Square in Mitchelstown on Thursday, December 12 at 7pm.
