This year's Rocky Mayhem festival will see Kilfinane come one step closer to realising their dream of having their own community centre and the line up promises to bring people from all over the country.

The festival has only been running three years and in that sense is still very much in its infancy, but organiser Adrian Wells told The Avondhu that they would look at Rocky Mayhem as an urban festival of big city standards in a rural area right on the doorstep for people.

"It's urban music in a predominantly rural environment," Adrian said, adding that they are bringing the artists to different audiences and also letting the festival goers enjoy great music without having to travel very far for it.

"It's in the centre of town, it's not in a field, it's not isolated - it's very central and over the two weekends it will bring people into Kilfinane," Adrian said.

This is the first time that they have split the festival to run over two consecutive weekends, this Saturday will see Brendan Grace perform in the festival's first bit of dabbling into comedy and this will be followed by a night of classic rock on Sunday, June 23 with performances from Deuces Wild and Kilfinane bands Handipak and Footloose. On that night, Keith Hanley 'The Voice of Ireland' will be a special guest and other local bands Cairde Snaithide  and Devil in the Kitchen will also perform.

The following weekend, there will be a Western themed night for Jimmy Buckley's performance on June 28, back by popular demand, Jimmy has a great following and there will be table service and a heated marquee on the night.

The headline acts will then take to the stage next weekend on June 29, as Damien Dempsey, Riptide Movement and Cast of Cheers.

"You wouldn't see a line up like that in Dublin, we are really excited about it. Riptide Movement are playing Glastonbury the day before and will be beside the Rolling Stones two weeks later, their live performances are legendary. Damien Dempsey is on fire at the moment, we are very lucky to have him and a few days later he will be on stage with Bruce Springstein and Cast of Cheers have had a quarter of a million hits for some of their online videos," Adrian told The Avondhu.

With tickets on sale for just €20 and camping for €5, this is a night not to be missed and in years to come, Rocky Mayhem will be 'the' festival to be seen at within the festival circuit.

"I don't believe there's ever been a one night show ever like this in the Ballyhoura region," Adrian added.

Last year's festival saw people come from 26 counties and this year's event is expected to surpass that. The organisers would like to thank Ballyhoura Development for their kind support and Mitchelstown Credit Union for their sponsorship.

Tickets are available online from www.rockymayhem.ie, from sponsors Mitchelstown Credit Union and from local outlets in Mitchelstown and Kilfinane.
