Following the public consultation process, TJ O’Connor and Associates Consulting Engineers announced plans to councillors at this week’s Fermoy MD meeting of their intention to go to An Bord Pleanala with planning for a remediation of the weir, mill race and the original fish pass in Fermoy before the end of quarter two this year.

Having received 106 submissions on the weir, Diarmuid Cahalane of TJ O’Connor Associates told the council that the recommended option is a remediation of the weir, mill race, and the original fish pass.

“Taking into account the fact that it is a protected structure and that any interventions into that structure will have to be cognisant of its status and be sympathetic and complementary to its protected status and its age. We have to do it properly,” Mr Cahalane said.
