A cultural feast was served up to the public in Fermoy, Mitchelstown and Kilworth during last Friday’s Culture Night. It was almost a case of culture overload as a range of singers, musicians, dancers and actors strutted their stuff before expectant crowds.
In no particular order, we had a sneak preview of the refurbished VAC (Village Arts Centre) in Kilworth, which was followed by a concert. Hot on its heels was the launch of Fermoy Musical Society’s ‘Hello Dolly’ in the novel setting of Hickey’s Menswear, Fermoy – this show is set to hit the stage in November. At the same time in Pearse Square, members of the Thomas Kent Pipe Band were performing some stirring airs before an appreciative crowd.
Also that evening, Ruairi Dineen was conducting Fermoy Concert Band in the Palace Theatre of Fermoy Community Youth Centre and across the river in Christ Church, Orison Carlile was presenting the life and times of Ireland’s greatest ever tenor, Count John McCormack.
