One of the most successful comedians in Ireland, Donegal man Conal Gallen is a rare breed in that he doesn’t actually work to a formula during his show. In fact, he claims that little if any planning goes into what material will be used on any given night.

“I don’t learn stuff in order, it’s just what comes into my head. Sometimes I’d start a joke and half way through you’d move on to something else. I’ve often started a joke at half eight and maybe go back to it a ten o'clock.”

Before he achieved his first ever double platinum album with the hilarious ‘Live and full of It’, Conal Gallen had taken the Irish comedy scene by storm.

His outstanding sense of comic timing, a tremendous singing voice and dynamic stage presence make him a favourite with audiences in all places and of all ages. As he says himself, he was born at a very young age!

The Donegal artist has been singing songs and making people laugh literally all his life.

As a lad, Conal Gallen sang and performed at various family gatherings. His career began at the age of 15, when he began appearing with his local drama group.

Conal started performing seriously (that means for money!) with great friend, Cormac Scully as a duo called The Odd Couple.

“Those were some of the greatest times I ever had,” he told The Avondhu. “We played the pubs and clubs, sometimes people didn’t even know we were there.”

Today, Conal is an extremely busy man, touring all over the world throughout the year. His proud boast is that he doesn’t have to resort to using foul language to make people laugh. Indeed, as has proved to hundreds of thousands of people, “if you have to resort to that, then you obviously weren’t funny in the first place”.

FIFTY SHADES

Famous for hilarious tongue in cheek songs like ‘Do Your Ears Hang Low’, ‘Rolling In The Hay’, ‘Horse It Into Ya, Cynthia’ and, more recently, a really funny parody based on the erotic best seller ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’.

Conal Gallen will perform for the first time at The Firgrove Hotel, Mitchelstown on Saturday, April 20.

‘Ya, I’m really looking forward to that,“ he told The Avondhu.

RIGHT OULD CRAIC

“I’ve been in the hotel several times when passing through and I’m really looking forward to the gig. It should be a night of right ould craic.”

Tickets for Conal Gallen in concert at The Firgrove on Saturday, April 20 can now be picked up at the hotel or by contacting 025-24111.
