Mitchelstown Gardai are investigating an attempted break-in to the Vodafone store on Mitchelstown's Lower Cork Street.
The raiders attempted to access the premises from a back door but fled the scene empty handed without gaining entry.
Vodafone area manager Juanita O’Donnell, praised the swift response of local gardai.
“The alarm went off at 1.26am and the gardai were at the scene within a matter of minutes. Thankfully the thieves didn’t gain entry to the store and the swift action of the gardai is to be commended.”
The attempted break-in which happened this Wednesday, is the third time that the store has been targeted in recent years. In the past, raiders wiped out the entire stock by smashing their way through the main front window.
It would appear that they were hopeful of a similar haul on this occasion after leaving behind a ‘bag for life’ sized holder.
Anyone who may have witnessed suspicious behaviour in the area on Wednesday morning at the time of the attempted robbery, is asked to contact Mitchelstown Garda Station on (025) 84833.
