ConnaBride Vintage Club have had a very good run weather-wise in recent years, unfortunately, the widespread rain that was forecast for last Sunday duly arrived to put a damper on proceedings.

In fairness to all concerned they pressed ahead and made the best of the situation. The rain undoubtedly affected the attendance but this didn't stop the full programme of events going ahead as scheduled. Owners of vintage tractors take climatic conditions in their stride and these hardy individuals weren't at all put out by the conditions. Indeed, conditions couldn't have been better for Saturday evening's run which attracted all manner of tractors, cars and bikes.

Another group immune to inclement weather are tug-of-war clubs and teams from as far away as The Burren in county Clare, travelled to Conna last Sunday to compete. Dogs owners and their pets were also out in force at the rally with the most attractive canines on view going home with coveted rosettes.

Not surprisingly, the refreshment tent did a very steady trade and a special word of thanks is due to the to the ladies who were on duty, namely: Chris Roche, Helen Philpott, Nancy Lavery, Mary Maguire, Lisa Linehan, Helen Leahy and the youngest member of staff, Kiana O'Sullivan. Another individual who helped rally the troops was MC for the day, Noel Cronin. The Sonas musicians along with Edmond O'Gorman supplied the tunes, even if dancers were a little thin on the ground.

As usual the ConnaBride Vintage Club committee put in a great effort, before, during and after the rally. Well done to them as well as generous landowner, Dan Gallagher, who makes his field available to rally organizers. Proceeds from the tractor run and rally are going to the Cardiac Unit of Our Lady's Children's Hospital in Crumlin.
