After more than 100 years based on Patrick Street in Fermoy, An Post will this Friday vacate its premises and move a few hundred metres away to its new home on MacCurtain Street.
To accommodate the relocation of business, the office will close its doors for the last time at 5.30pm on this Thursday and reopen at 34-35 MacCurtain Street at 11am on Monday, September 26.
An Post announced in April that they were seeking a new postmaster in Fermoy, with Michael Hegarty retiring from his position of postmaster after 48 years of service in June. Following his retirement, Paul Fisher took the reins as the new postmaster of the Fermoy office.
The new An Post office takes over 34-35 MacCurtain Street from One More Time, a second-hand shop which closed earlier in the year. An Post is the latest company to locate to MacCurtain Street in recent months giving the street, which in trading terms would always have played second fiddle to Patrick Street, an added boost.
This move comes following the recent opening of fashion boutique Suzsa in the former Fish Market premises and the Lyons O’Reilly Pharmacy in the former Frank O’Sullivan Garage, along with a change of management at Charlie Mac’s Bar.
