The call for traffic lights or some other form of traffic management at the junction of St Bernard's Place hasn't come a day before time. For anyone exiting from the St Bernard's side or trying to access St Bernard's Place from Beechfield, this can be a perilous undertaking and is badly in need of a remedy.

With a supermarket on one corner and a service station on the other, this, coupled with drivers accessing two industrial estates and a school, it is always going to be a busy junction.

The issue has been raised at many meetings down through the years but now, at least, a progress report is to be provided at the February council meeting. Let's hope for everyone's sake, that the emphasis will be on 'real progress'!

Further good news on the other side of town following the announcement a few weeks ago of the creation 100 jobs by ABEC Inc at the former FCI plant, is the announcement of plans to redevelop the John McCarthy site on Cork Road with an estimated 50 jobs in the offing. Yes, bring it on!
