Plenty entertainment and excitement in Carraig na bhFear

Members of Carraig na bhFear Community Council were out in force at last Sunday’s very successful family fun day. The Village Green, adjacent to the outdoor swimming pool, was the setting for an event that had music, vintage display, food stands, face painting and sideshows. The weather played its part and there was a fine crowd in attendance.

Carraig na bhFear Community Council are active all year round and their family fun day is an annual highlight. It also generates important funding, which is ploughed back into community projects.

The duck derby is one such source of income. Having purchased their ducks, members of the public looked on in anticipation as the ‘dashing ducks’ battled it out for supremacy. Having won his heat in tremendous style, ‘Darcey’s Duck’, owned by local trainer, Darcey O’Sullivan, proved much too good for the opposition in the final. Darcey, who is making quite a name for herself in duck racing, won €20 for winning the heat and picked up another €50 for the final win. Darcey, who was supported by her sister, Ruth, was obviously delighted with her big win.
