Preparations are underway across the region as plans are being finalised for a number of local St Patrick’s Day parades, with a number of grand marshals already announced.

For those in the South Limerick area, this year is a big one as three local parades are teaming up to mark the big day. Ballylanders, Kilfinane and Kilmallock have come together to coordinate their approach this year to allow locals the opportunity to view parades in the three locations, all in one day, while also allowing those taking part in the parade to participate in all three.

One of the organisers, Ballylanders man Damien Fitzgerald, said that last year’s parade in Ballylanders was very successful and saw a great turnout.

“We’re trying to keep the tradition alive. Last year was great, we had a very good turnout with lots of local groups and vintage cars and tractors,” he said.
