The traditional ‘Leaving Cert weather’ that graced the country over the bank holiday weekend, heralded the annual occasion of relief and panic, as 136,160 Junior, Leaving Cert and Leaving Cert Applied students, put their heads down and applied at least a decade of learning to paper on Wednesday this week.

With English Paper 1 the first exam the Leaving Cert's faced, The Avondhu didn’t meet one unhappy student in Fermoy or Mitchelstown afterwards (maybe they were hiding!).

Many who spoke said that the exams were ‘grand’, with one Presentation Secondary School student declaring that the Leaving Cert English exam was ‘better than expected’. Not a peep was heard outside of CBS in Mitchelstown before 12.20pm and it seems …
