Over €440k raised to date from Better Life Cycle

At the handover of funds from this year’s event, were l-r: Milo O’Connell, Claire O’Connell, Martin Sheehan, Maurice Riordan (chairman of St Joseph’s), Tom O’Flynn, Aidan Hallahan (transport manager), Susan Nolan (fundraising coordinator), Micheal Hegarty (CEO St Joseph’s), Noreen Pigott, Keith Pigott, Cathy Walsh and John Walsh.

Last Tuesday evening, the Better Life Cycle Committee and friends travelled to Charleville to present a cheque for €35,000 to the St Joseph’s Foundation, the total proceeds of their 2023 event, ‘The Treaty/Kingdom Tour’.

This year’s effort brings the total raised since its inception in 2014 to €442,000. Organisers offered an enormous ‘thank you’ to their cyclists, their sponsors and of course all the volunteers for their support year after year.

In June, 120 cyclists embarked on their annual fundraiser from the Longcourt House Hotel in Newcastle West on either the 130-kilometre route, or the shorter 65 kilometre route. In bright and fine weather, the cyclists praised the scenic route and the organisation in yet another successful year.

The donations reflect a huge amount of work and time put in by the committee, cyclists and the volunteers over the years, and organisers are already looking forward to their 10-year anniversary next year.
