Another outstanding day of tug of war pulling on Sunday last in round 6 being the final round of the Munster League and this was held at Watergrasshill, and hosted by the Glenhill Club.

Five teams competed in the 640kg and they were - The Shop, The Burren, Farrenreigh, Glenhill, Donoughmore. After some fine hard pulling with little between any of the teams, the four teams got into the senior semi-final. The Shop v Glenhill went to a three end pull with Glenhill taking the first end. But the Shop came back hard and took the other two ends. In the other semi-final it was between the Burren v Farrenreigh, and the Burren took this in two straight ends after a strong fight from Farrenreigh.

So in the final it was between the Shop v the Burren, and this was a real tough ding dong of a battle. The Burren took the two ends due to being the fittest and outlasted the longest and took the top points, where they received the Batt McHugh Memorial Perpetual Cup from the Glenhill Club. They were also the overall winners of the Munster League where they received the Munster Board Perpetual Cup and the gold medals. The Shop who were in second place overall, took the silver medals.

640Kg NOVICE

In the novice 640kg section, Farrenreigh were the only novice team who competed so they took the point and the O’Mahony-Galvin Cup presented by Glenhill Club. They were also the overall winners of the novice Munster League where they received the Munster Board Perpetual Cup and the gold medals. The runners-up in the league were the Mill who took the silver medals.

In the heavyweight competition of 720kg - six teams competed, they were the Shop, the Burren, Farrenreigh, Glenhill, Cuan Rithe, and Araglin. This was also a great competition with little between any of the teams. In one semi-final it was the Shop v Burren, where the Shop were that small bit stronger to day to take the Burren in two straight ends. In the other semi final it was between Cuan Rithe v Araglin, where Araglin proved to be the stronger by taking this in two straight ends.

So in the final it was between the Shop v Araglin and this was a great final with nothing between the two. But the Shop outlasted the best to take both ends and take the top points where they received the Batt McHugh Perpetual Cup from the Glenhill Club and they were also the top team overall in the Munster League, where they received the Tom Spillane Memorial Perpetual Cup. The Burren were a close overall second and took the silver medals.

NOVICE

In the novice section the final was between Farrenreigh v Cuan Rithe, where Cuan Rithe took this in two straight ends after a very close battle to take the top points and the Zeta McHugh Memorial Perpetual Trophy presented by the Glenhill Club. Cuan Rithe were also the overall winners of the Munster League so they took the Munster League Perpetual Cup and the gold medals. Farrenreigh took second position overall to take the silver medals.

Judges on the day were Michael Carroll, Dan McCarthy, Pat Carey, and JP Flynn. Scorekeeper was Liam Begley assisted by Denis Dunlea.
