What a wonderful experience and joy it was for Timmy (Rancher) White and Bill Piggott to have met up with Jim Noonan in Mitchelstown recently. Timmy takes up the story:
"Jim was born and reared in Mitchelstown and grew up in St Fanahans Place. Jim comes from a well-known and highly respected family in Mitchelstown and he is a brother of Breda O’Brien who lives in St Fanahans Place. What a pleasure it was for Bill Piggott and myself to listen to Jim telling us about his young days in Mitchelstown.
"As a young man Jim worked in Mitchelstown Creameries and at that time the work was only seasonal. Jim, like thousands of more young Irish men and women, had to emigrate to find work. Jim Noonan never forgot his roots and where he came from and he recalled so much to us about the great people who lived in St Fanahan's Place and about the sacrifices they made to rear us. He referred to the people there as 'the salt of the earth'.
"Jim said we were all poor and sometimes we didn’t have a penny to our name, but we all cared about each other. As you said yourself Jim, if they only could come back and see us all now, I’m sure they would be proud of us.
"Once again Jim, myself and Billjoe would like to thank you for telling us all about our home town and like you, Billjoe and I are very proud of where we came from. God Bless you Jim - come back soon again to see us and God bless all the Noonans!"
