Cllr Frank O’Flynn proposals for free two hour parking to be introduced in Fermoy were this week shot down at the Fermoy Electoral Area Committee meeting, as fellow councillors said he was ‘jumping the gun’, as the new authority for Fermoy is not yet in place.

Cllr O’Flynn argued that Fermoy needed to be put on an equal footing with the likes of Charleville and Mitchelstown in terms of free parking and he said that this would benefit the town the most.

Cllr Pa O’Driscoll shot down Cllr O’Flynn saying that the committee have no responsibility for that area and therefore cannot make any decisions on it. Cllr Noel McCarthy pointed out that Fermoy Town Council went through three meetings to pass their budget and that they have factored pay parking in until at least January 2015 and said it was ‘somewhat insulting’ to the town council members to suggest that they didn’t try to get the best outcome for Fermoy.

While Cllr O’Flynn argued that he wasn’t insulting Fermoy Town Council, he went on to say that Fermoy should be treated the same as towns like Charleville and Mitchelstown where two hours free parking is operational.
