Pa O’Driscoll, the Fine Gael candidate for the next General Election, has welcomed the application by the OPW for planning permission to undertake works at Doneraile Court.
The permission being sought includes renovation works, the installation of toilets, a lift, and an exhibition space.
Speaking to The Avondhu O’Driscoll said, “Funding of €1.6 million was announced in 2018 for the restoration of Doneraile Court, with the first €900,000 allocated in September. This will be used to provide exhibition space in the house, as well as ancillary works including toilets and a lift. The application for planning permission is welcome as Doneraile Park has become a major tourist and recreation attraction. An exhibition space will further enhance the experience of visitors”.
O’Driscoll went on to say “Doneraile Park was the 7th most visited free site in Ireland in 2017 with 480,000 visitors. This work will increase the potential of Doneraile, and North Cork, to grow as tourist destinations”.
