
Fermoy’s own Joe O’Brien Whitmarsh has signed as a midfielder with Southampton Football Club on a permanent deal from Cork City. The club confirmed the move late last week, with the talented 18-year-old joining on a deal until 2027 and linking up with the club’s Under 21s.
Having risen through the ranks at Cork City, O’Brien-Whitmarsh only made his senior debut in March 2023, but went on to become a key player for the Rebel Army in the club’s SSE Airtricity Premier Division struggle last season.
“I’m absolutely buzzing, this is a dream come true really. Playing back home in Ireland, it’s always been a dream to get a contract in England and it’s here now and I’m happy,” Joe said.
