An objection has been lodged with An Bord Pleanála against a 43 house development at Sliabh Álainn in Mitchelstown which was granted planning permission by Cork County Council in mid-July, by a resident of the estate.
Mr Denis McGrath had previously objected to the development at the planning permission stage with the local authority. His reasons for objecting at that point were that the added volume of traffic via the existing entrance would turn it into a ‘major hazardous area’, and made reference to the poor driver behaviour of the parents and carers of children who attend the nearby Bright Sparks playschool despite Cork County Council having installed double lines to stop illegal parking at the junction.
In May 2024 a letter was sent bythe owners of the facility to the parents and caregivers to remind them not to turn cars at the entrance or to ‘park haphazardly’. A traffic survey carried out in the area however, determined that the increase in traffic would not be significant.
