Nursing staff at Fermoy Community Hospital were forced to buy their own face masks at a discount store in the town, a local councillor has claimed.
The problem was revealed by Cllr Deirdre O’Brien who claimed that staff at the hospital were unable to get access to the critical Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during the Covid-19 outbreak.
The councillor explained that she was contacted by distressed staff members who said they were unable to get the PPE and that she advised that they get the face masks from a local shop.
“It was extremely disturbing to learn that Nurses in Fermoy Community Hospital, who wished to wear masks, were told they could but would have to provide the masks themselves.
