As expected, Fermoy-based county councillor Noel McCarthy has become the leader of the Labour party grouping on Cork County Council.

It follows the sudden resignation recently of Councillor John Mulvihill. Cllr McCarthy was deputy leader of the group. Speaking after the meeting he said he was delighted to have been selected.

"It's a great honour to have, after just four years on the council, my colleagues put their faith in me, especially in facing into what will be difficult local elections for us. We will continue to work away until then as best we can on the council," he said.
