Cork County Council have granted planning permission for a 43-house development at Sliabh Álainn in Mitchelstown, with Uisce Éireann confirming that building can go ahead without any upgrades needed to the wastewater treatment plant in the town
The new development will be on the north side of the current estate (furthest from the road) and share the same entrance. The majority of the homes will be three-bedroom, with four two-bedroom townhouses. A total of eight houses will be social housing: all of the two-bed houses and another four of the three-bed townhouses. The rest of the units are a mix of detached and semi-detached four-bedroom houses. The developers say that this third phase of Sliabh Álainn is a ‘natural extension’ of the previous two projects, the first of 28 houses, and the second of 27 houses.
Uisce Éireann confirmed in November 2023 that there is capacity for the 43 houses without any upgrades necessary on the wastewater treatment plant, but warned that the plant is still ‘constrained’.
