An Post have put paid to speculation that all local postal sorting will be centralised to Fermoy later this year, by saying the company has no such plans to do so. It has confirmed, however, that a new delivery sorting unit is being planned for construction in Fermoy.

A well-placed source had informed The Avondhu that it was understood that all sorting from local areas, including Conna, Lismore, Tallow, Ballyduff and Cappoquin, would be centralised to Fermoy in April. However, nothing official had been confirmed to them by the State-owned company.

'NO PLANS'

In response to the above query from The Avondhu, a spokesperson for An Post, Angus Laverty said: “There are no plans to centralise mail offices in any of those areas, certainly not to Fermoy. We have nothing planned like that at the moment.

“I know that Fermoy is to get a new DSU, what we call a delivery sorting unit, but that’s in the future, building hasn’t begun on that. But certainly there are no plans for anything to happen in Conna, Lismore, Cappoquin or any of the places suggested.”
